I am DEBORAH PATTERSON
My Story

Born in Sydney now living in Melbourne my family moved around a lot, living in fourteen different homes as my father was in the Navy. Even though my years growing up were difficult and at times challenging I always had people around me who were encouraging and supportive. These people included friends, family, sports coaches, teachers and  lecturers.

I studied at Melbourne State College and Latrobe University gaining my Bachelor of Arts and Education Degrees and Dilpoma of Teaching. I am a qualified and experienced Principal having taught in eight schools. I have participated in many Governance, Financial, Technical, Relationship and Mediation Professional Development Courses throughout my career.  A High Performing Principal Award allowed me to travel overseas to UK, Northern Ireland, USA, New Zealand Canada to study and investigate other educational systems. I was fortunate to establish a Sister School relationship with a South Korean school whilst a Principal and got the opportunity to travel several times to Soeul and Gwangyang.

I was named International Woman of the Year Whittlesea City Council 2014. I volunteered with the YMCA and was a National Board Director for three years and President of YMCA Whittlesea for six years. I was on the Licensing and Governance Committee and led the National Redress Committee during the Royal Commission Inquiry for one year.

I represented Principals on the Victorian Principals Association Board as a Director for eight years and the Australian Principals Federation for two years. I was a Mentor for Women in Prison Program with Victorian Association For The Care & Resettlement Of Offenders VACRO for several years.

I have survived several health scares: breast cancer, stroke and a tumor on my thyroid. Implementing my health and wellbeing strategies allowed me to pursue my dreams. I have two children and four grandchildren who are the delight of my life.

I now spend my time coaching and mentoring clients including professionals, principal class officers, aspiring leaders, teachers, staff,  students, pre-service students  and parents/groups as well as speaking at professional learning workshops and conferences.
